The proposed argument

The proposed proof uses growth estimates for cohomology sections under the Kontsevich–Zorich cocycle, compact recurrence and the Veech eigenvalue criterion to exclude each fixed nonzero frequency in almost every direction. Countability of the spectrum and Fubini then give almost-everywhere ergodicity of products of directional flows. A rational-polygon approximation and Baire-category argument yields generic weak mixing for polygonal billiards.
